Alamo Heights High School partners with Atma Energy to power new campus with clean solar technology

Jun 23, 2025

San Antonio, TX — June 25, 2025 — Alamo Heights Independent School District (AHISD) and Atma Energy, a San Antonio-based solar energy company, are proud to announce a major clean energy partnership to bring solar power to the new academic and administrative building at Alamo Heights High School. This milestone follows the launch of the district’s $371 million Bond 2023 redevelopment plan and reflects AHISD’s continued commitment to long-term sustainability and responsible stewardship of public resources.

The agreement between AHISD and Atma Energy will integrate solar photovoltaic systems into the design of the school’s modernized campus, currently under construction and scheduled for completion in August 2026. The solar energy system is expected to offset a significant portion of the building’s electricity usage, reducing operational costs while also serving as a hands-on educational tool.

“This is more than just an investment in infrastructure- it’s a commitment to long-term sustainability and smart financial stewardship. By partnering with Atma Energy, we’re not only reducing our environmental footprint but also generating significant energy cost savings. It’s a powerful example to our students and community of what responsible leadership looks like—today and for generations to come>” said Dr. Dana Bashara, Superintendent of AHISD

Powering education with purpose

This solar initiative will not only deliver clean energy to the new campus but also enrich educational possibilities. This project creates opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world energy solutions—fostering environmental literacy, supporting STEM education, and encouraging students to think critically about the role of renewable energy in their future.

“Our mission is to power progress with transparency and trust,” said Supratim Srinivasan, CEO of Atma Energy. “Alamo Heights High School is already leading by example in campus design and academic innovation. Now, they’re also leading in sustainability.”

A model for community-focused clean energy

The new building—designed by LPA Design Studios and constructed by Bartlett Cocke General Contractors—features larger classrooms, enhanced natural lighting, and collaborative learning spaces, while preserving key architectural elements. With Atma Energy’s solar integration, the campus will also serve as a living laboratory for sustainability.

The solar installation is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cut long-term electricity costs, and inspire future generations to think critically about energy, environment, and innovation.
