SAN ANTONIO, TX – As Texas grapples with an aging grid and rising energy demands, innovative Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) are proving their value by leveraging distributed energy resources—like rooftop solar panels and advanced battery storage—to create a decentralized, resilient power network. However, adoption of VPPs remains low due to negative experiences consumers have had with their solar providers, leading to a lack of trust and reluctance to re-engage. Atma Energy is stepping forward to bridge this trust gap and instill confidence in both consumers and utility providers.
Recently featured in the San Antonio Express-News, Atma Energy’s VPP solutions demonstrated their effectiveness during the severe weather conditions of December 2024. In Bandera, Texas, residents benefited from Atma’s smart energy systems, with one homeowner unaware they had lost power. “Atma Energy’s solutions allow us to respond quickly to grid needs,” explained Supratim Srinivasan, CEO and Co-Founder. “Instead of waiting years for a new power plant to come online, we can bring these systems online quickly. Our VPPs are transforming how energy is generated, stored, and used—creating a smarter, more reliable grid.”
While continuing work on VPPs, Atma Energy remains dedicated to supporting homeowners abandoned by bankrupt or unresponsive solar companies. “We’ve seen the damage that bad actors in the industry have caused, and we refuse to let homeowners bear that burden alone,” said Srinivasan. Through system evaluations, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance, Atma Energy ensures that homeowners left behind still receive the support they need to keep their solar investments working as intended.
In addition to its technological innovations and consumer support, Atma Energy is advancing the solar industry through robust advocacy and policy efforts. In a recent live Q&A with the San Antonio Express-News, the company's CEO discussed Senate Bill 1036—the "Residential Solar Retailer Regulatory Act"—a proposed law aimed at regulating the sale and lease of residential solar energy systems in Texas. "This protection bill, scheduled for review by the Senate Business and Commerce Committee next Tuesday (3/18), appears to have wide support and is expected to pass without any obstacles," stated Texas Solar Energy Society Executive Director Patrice "Pete" Parsons.
The proposed bill offers much-needed continuity to an industry that has experienced considerable instability in recent years. As Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) become increasingly central to Texas’ energy strategy, Atma Energy is committed to ensuring that both homeowners and utilities can rely on a more resilient and sustainable energy future. Through its ongoing efforts to expand VPP solutions, Atma is at the forefront of demonstrating how solar-plus-storage technology can address some of the most urgent challenges facing Texas’ energy grid.
